In a major leadership change, Buck Murphy, the founder and longtime Editor-in-Chief of The Vinewood Journal, has announced he will be stepping down from his editorial duties to take on a new role as a member of the Journal’s Board of Directors.
Murphy, who established The Vinewood Journal as one of San Andreas’ most respected independent news outlets, cited his recent success in passing the state bar exam and his desire to pursue a new chapter in public defense law as the reason for the transition.
“The Journal has always stood for truth and accountability,” Murphy said in a brief statement. “Now, I look forward to bringing those same values into the courtroom standing up for the people who need a voice most.”
Murphy’s first case as a public defender reportedly resulted in a dismissal after the court found no probable cause against his client an early indication of his potential in the courtroom.
Under his leadership, The Vinewood Journal grew from a small, independent newsroom into a statewide digital publication known for its hard-hitting investigative stories, community coverage, and strong editorial integrity. His move to the Board of Directors will allow him to continue shaping the Journal’s mission and long-term vision while stepping back from day-to-day operations.
The new Editor-in-Chief is expected to be announced in the near future, as the Journal’s leadership finalizes its internal selection process.
For now, the staff and readers of The Vinewood Journal express their gratitude to Buck Murphy for his years of dedication, leadership, and commitment to honest journalism and wish him the best as he embarks on his next chapter in law.
